All 50 States Series - Me Overwhelmed (Part 2)

All 50 States Series - Me Overwhelmed (Part 2)

Part 2 of my All 50 States Series is really just me needing to get ahold of myself. ha :) I have somewhat overwhelmed myself.

In starting to really going through my photos, I realized for me to ever truly complete this gigantic task I've placed before myself, I am going to have to share every aspect. Including the embarrassing realization that I have an obnoxious amount of pictures and videos stored - to the tune of 37,000 on my current iphone (with an additional 2,500+ videos) + over 502GB of pics and videos on my PC (that's over 150,000 photos).

And, I have even more in my dropbox - but I haven't had the courage yet to look at the combined storage space that is taking up. :)

I've had a ton of fun looking through everything so far and it helps me to admit these facts. I WILL get this task done, no matter how long it takes me. I'm so grateful for all the pictures and especially some of the videos I come across. It all just takes me back.

Innumerable precious memories. The years seem like they fly by, but I like to say that when I take time to wander through the memories, it really has been a lifetime. A lifetime of moments, experiences, laughter, and learning.

It's nice that when I'm thinking of a photo I want to find, I can pretty well go right to it. And here's why:

In all my years of teaching computer classes, one of my favorite things to teach was File Management. I used to tell folks to imagine how they would file something in an office filing cabinet. You utilize the filing cabinet drawers, with labeled folders inside, to thoughtfully categorize the things you need to be able to efficiently find later. So, think of your hard drive as the entire cabinet and the countless folders within folders you can utilize to label your files.

That methodical system translated into my system for organizing my digital photos. Within my PHOTOS folder (it's like a big filing cabinet), I have a folder for every year (think of them as a drawer), and then within those folders, I usually have a folder for EVERY MONTH.

It is perfect and this organization will definitely help along the way.
